Known: hypotenuse 12 cm. Find: opposite x.

sin 35° = x ÷ 12

x = 12 sin 35°

x = 6.882...

x ≈ 6.88 cm

Worked Example 2: Find the Hypotenuse

Adjacent=8 cm and θ=42°.

cos 42° = 8 ÷ h

h cos 42° = 8

h = 8 ÷ cos 42°

h ≈ 10.8 cm
